The projected $2trillion social security transition cost of privatizing treated lightly by the administration is no surprise — what’s another trillion or so added to an $8 trillion national debt — besides, most of it will go to the profiteers on Wall Street, which has great expertise in robbing other people’s money. Driving this home is the Christmas bonuses to over 150,000 employees of the Street, averaging over 100 grand for each, the grand total of which comes to $14.9 billion! Something i...

I admire people of faith with childlike innocence unvarnished by theo-ideological passion. Those who truly believe that upon their death they will join or await their loved ones in heavenly bliss. However, those with damnation in their hearts that conjure up ferocious hierarchies that will intrude upon the living terroristic judgments to thwart the tranquility and splendor of faith, I have no use for. Neither do I possess saintly patience with physicists who lay claim to theory in solving the...

Privatizing Social Security will benefit only Wall Street brokers with their fees and commissions. To expect benevolence from financial houses is fantasy, even no-load mutual funds. For the those on the low end of wages, investing an average of $1400 — but another tax deferred shelter — a year [including employer match] would be devastating to the national debt, and would only increase outsourcing and overseas investments, while retirement benefits would amount to a minuscule sum juxtaposed to ...

In light of yesterday's Mosul tragedy, isn't it about time we send in crack special forces to avenge the cruel deaths of our troops?

It is politically correct to now say “Happy Holidays”[?]--- and since an overwhelming majority of Republicans are not in tune with this protocol, preferring “Merry Christmas,” and Bush greeted the press corps with such correctness, perhaps he’s not as conservative as previously thought. Frankly I prefer “Christmaskah” or should it be “Merry Christislamkah? http://stevendedalus.joeuser.com

What this country needs is the return of Rosie the Riveter to speed up the armor needed in Iraq. It is inconceivable that in a war of choice the Pentagon did not have a contingency plan for insurgency. The “planners” were flaunting peacocks in that they were so confident that all the invasion required was shock and awe to accomplish the mission without a front line. Rummy and his generals should go back to military school and relearn the art of war. Another lesson to be learned is that w...

Obviously the majority is satisfied with the leadership of the President, yet dissatisfied with its results! Not since Hoover, has a president shown more incompetence in managing the nation’s well-being, but unlike the election results of 1932, the people were bedazzled by the muscle flexing in war and the hysteria of cultural values. Subliminally disappointed in the President’s pre-9/11 lackadaisical disposition on terrorism, the electorate ascribes most of the blame to Clinton, whose admi...

How is it the CIA cannot live up to its namesake? Is it not supposed to “centralize” intelligence? It is bogus to assume territorial sanctity of the FBI to guard data concerning national defense. Homeland Security is supposed to coordinate national security, and yet not coordinate intelligence? — give me a break! Copyright © 2004 Richard R. Kennedy All rights reserved. Creationists must go ballistic when reports of Hubble’s peering back into time approaching 14 billion years. Is it a matter of human ego that the universe was created by a Judea-Christian God? Surely, the believer of the Big Bang must feel hurt that he has not been graced by the will of God. For where lies the satisfaction whose beginnings is a mere piece of erratic stardust? I continue to defend social security and entitlements — take them away and the economy goes down the tubes. Is it not shameless that Red voters are non-entities in Blue states, and conversely? And how in the world of common sense can one justify two senators in several states having but one congressional district? Copyright © 2004 Richard R. Kennedy All rights reserved. The clamor for Creationism to be taught in public schools alongside evolution is absurd. Evolution is a theory concerning species as they were and have become by virtue of cell production; it is not a theory on how the universe came to be. Creationism, on the other hand, is a mythical or religious treatise of cosmology and the miraculous, instant bursting forth of species. For Creationism to be offered in a curricula, it should be one of many comparative religions, which, of course, will open ...

This is the season — even Newsweek got into the act — to believe or not in the Christian celebration. Surely, it is the time to take in the symbolic beauty of it, even the commercialism, which on occasion can be quite charming. Although there are tree huggers who whine about the destruction of fir trees, the end result undeniably spirits symbolic joy to many. Those who do not believe or are of other faiths are caught up in the material culture of Christmas and suspend belief to take th...

To all who’s single: say no to sex and conservatives promise you a ticket to heaven. A star-struck woman of the State Department will do what Colin couldn’t — comply. Funds for education is controlled by legislators roll of leaded dice. How can humanity be so smug when under Earth’s mantle is fiery hell? The testimony of the majority is that we fear terrorism and God. If youth expended half the energy and enthusiasm for education that they do on rock stars and video g...
