Does a finely manufactured product really need the Martha Stewart signature? Won’t any thick bath towel dry the rump as well? Though I was a devout fan of Ted Williams, I thought—granted, testimonials were rampant— it imbecilic for Sears to have him endorse all its sporting products. Unfortunately, I didn’t think that way when at thirteen years of age, I "walked a mile for a Camel" on Joe DiMaggio’s say-so.

"You know that woman he[Obama] had singing for him, singing my song, going to get her a-- whipped," Etta said to a thunderous applause. She went on to add that she could not "stand" Beyonce. I've got news for Etta--it's not her song. It was introduced in a Glenn Miller movie before he formed his Airforce Band. If anyone is miffed from the grave it would be Ray Eberle, Miller's vocalist. Long before Jones, it romanced millions of couples during the war years.

I can't believe Obama is hamstringing the move to digital because a latenik minority didn't  get off their ass to purchase a digital TV or at least a converter by now. The forty dollar giveaway was like the foodstamps for electronics. A terribly costly program that was unnecessary. I'll wager the manufacturers of antennas were responsible for lobbying it or those in the sticks still watdh Oprah in snow. If you want an immediate stimulus why not give away HD TVs to the great u...

"Cannot find server or DNS Error Internet Explorer" I keep getting this damnable message in forum. Sometimes the refresh button helps, but mostly it hangs. I can often fare well for a while when refresh works and I hit the back arrow. More recently it is becoming cantankerous and I have to reload JU. I'm always going back to internet options to check or check off items, but I really don't know half of what I'm doing. I'm thinking trusted sites[services. stardock.com] might have something to ...

There is no question that education can lead to a better life. Even in the old days, a young lady wise enough to learn typing led her away from the drudge of the inferior file clerk; or the young man ambitious enough to learn the art of auto mechanics to get away from the monotony of gas attendant. The GI Bill opened the path to college and labor on a higher scale. Out of the one doctor town abundance of specialties and better health care developed. Inventive engineers and knowl...

Buster Crabbe and Johnny Weismuller must be swimming in their graves what with the current hoopla of Olympic pool heroes. These giants of Olympic history had to endure the hair on their bodies and pool splash—opposed to today’s technology—that mirrored oceanic waves, nor were high tech sharkskin suits available in the '20s, ’30s. Probably unavailable too were targeted nutritional supplements, parental goading in early childhood, and government athletic programs....

Brad--or anyone--Since my crash two months ago and had to reformat Drive C, I have added all the necessary updates for W98Sec; but for some cryptic reason Internet Explorer will not let me post comments on the forum. It gives some crazy reason about security, though I have all the latest Windows security updates. HELP! I can still post from my page and also through the backdoor of the forum blogger's home site.

In the “good old days” — if such a phenomenon ever existed — it was reputed that marriage was an alternative to promiscuity or virginal abstention, despite societal insistence that marriage was designed to forge virtuous families. This flies in the face of legal, prevailing “companionate” marriages of today in which starting a family is but an accident or afterthought. The primary motive among young people today — aside from the rarity of “true” love — is rent control eased by living togethe...

As a rule philanthropy is a result of an earlier stage of misanthropy. The prevailing indignation over Mel Gibson’s posture on Jews is ironic since there are those who silently agree with his outburst. Like Joe Lieberman, Hillary Clinton is for the war but prefers not to sleep with the Defense Secretary. Why would “ marriage” make gays more responsible?--it doesn’t work with heterosexuals. The blogosphere is saturated with frustrated writers and rejected letters to editors. LO...

Talk about GM merging with Renault and Nissan is just another subversive move to lose US identity. Already GM is in the process of again downsizing its assets in this country rather than reaffirming itself. When I was a kid GM was but a shadow for trucks and not very big ones, which were left to White Horse and Mack. Its true identity was in its fleet of automobiles and its bread and butter, much like the economy Ford, was in its Chevy for the average blue collar family. The Pontiac, and the ec...

This is a self-serving reminder to buy my book. http://www.geocities.com/rrjksr/greatreading2.htm It would make a fine gift for the older generation since it takes place during the Great Depression and WWII.

I know male-chauvinists resent liberated women, but is it carrying it too far to court-martial SPC Katherine Jashinski of the Texas National Guard for changing her mind [surely, a woman’s prerogative] by filing for conscientious objector status and refusing to be deployed to Iraq? Why not relent as good chauvinists by patting her cheek along with a loving sentiment: "Okay, honey, return to the kitchen.” "
