Constructive gadfly

In a nutshell it is indeed a black and white decision — no buts and ifs about it. You are either satisfied with the current administration or you’re not. You cannot say that though you’re unhappy with Bush but conjecture that you would be unhappier with Kerry without his having a chance to prove himself is what we use to say in the marines “you don’t have a crystal ball up your arse, so be gung ho.” That is, if you think, having been given four years to prove himself, Bush has not done what is expected of a president, then you are constrained to give Kerry the chance.

On the other hand, there are no polemics torturing your decision if you clearly believe — overlooking conditionals — in the following:

  •           Bush ‘41 never lived up to his promise of being the “education president” but ‘43 has even though he has shortchanged NCLB.

  •           Bush rightly ignored Clinton’s warnings about al Qaeda by legitimately questioning “is” as in imminent terror threat.

  •           Invading Afghanistan on the cheap, because the administration secretly regarded Iraq a greater threat.

  •           Replacing the chief of staff of the armed forces for one who kissed Rumsfeld’s rump was the only way to carry out swift shock and awe in Iraq.

  •           Welfare is a hangover from the New Deal and should be replaced by Christian Charities.

  •           Saddam, enjoying his rip off of oil for food and busily building more palaces and shrines to himself, nevertheless had time to build WMDs or at least planning to do so.

  •           Bush ‘41 over-indulged in Desert Storm by insisting on a wide coalition and overwhelming force, while ‘43 rightly decided he could redo it better and with far fewer troops and international participation.

  •           True heroes of the economy are the upper echelon of the affluent and therefore deserve reward for bearing the burden of Clinton’s arrogance in raising their taxes for eight troubling, but profitable years.

  •           Bush was decisive in unlocking Gore’s mythical Social Security lock box to pay for the trillions-plus tax cuts.

  •           Decisiveness is all that matters, nor does it have to be right.

  •           The Iraqi people deserved to be liberated; the people of Iran, North Korea, Palestine, Syria, and Saudi Arabia are not included in this fuzzy mathematical equation.

  •           An $87 billion blank check for the troops and the people of Iraq was a pressing need even though it has not yet been spent and the troops are still waiting for the body and truck armor, and the Iraqis their clean water.

  •           Selective Service is not imminent because there are more than enough National Guard and Reservist suckers knocking down the back door.

  •           You despise dictators but a cowboy with a chainsaw hacking away at our own democracy and defense is leadership.

For some odd reason your text is strangely garbled

Thanks for the tip; apparently the type couldn't handle boxes.

Richard, your articles would probably be more widely read if you didn't insert your own fonts and such.

What I write my articles in is Front Page and then I just paste them in. That way, I'm not carrying in weird fonts and sizes and such into my articles.

I use Front Page, too. Century 721, 12pt, was received well until it loused up the bullets, so I switched to TimesRoman. I've now increased the size. Thanks
