Constructive gadfly

Washington Post-ABC Poll shows that Kerry leads, however slim, in issues that matter to the people. Kerry leads 50% to Bush’s 44% if the election were now with 4% undecided and 2% for Nader. They trust Kerry 52% to 44% as commander in chief and only 2% undecided. In handling the economy Kerry leads by eleven points but with seven points undecided. In understanding the problems of ordinary people Kerry leads 51% to 37% but with 12% undecided. As a strong leader, however, he loses by six points and six undecided. Yet Bush’s job approval has remained at a low 47%.

This poll apparently gives testimony that Americans are indeed considering issues other than terrorism or Iraq. It remains to been seen on election day whether other issues are as influential as the war.

I have read somewhere that the issue of stem-cell research is also favored by a majority of the public.  We all know Kerry has stated he would reverse Bush's policy on stem-cell research so that will only add to Kerry's campaign.  Like Clinton stated "Democrats win when the public starts thinking".

Kerry would really help himself out if he would make his position clear on the Patriot Act. He has said that he would rescind parts of it but has yet to state which parts. If he could take away the invasive and overly broad powers the government has given itself and restore us to our prior state I think he would pick up some points. The only way Bush has ever made "headway" with his plans on protecting us is solidifying the hawks and neocons that would vote for him anyway. Our country has dealt with terrorism effectively before and always managed to screw itself and the people over when it oversteps it's bounds (see Nixon admin. and the CIA). Kerry would also help himself in being clear and forward with his intentions regarding would-be policies. Part of the reason Bush has held on is becuase he has been so clear and forward (despite his muddied grammar).

Kerry is accused of "nuances" and is therefore hesitant about going into much detail, lest the average voter perceives his substructures to difficult issues, as simply flip-flopping.
