I have never trolled even though I might perceive a comment unseemly. No, this is not about points; rather it is concern over ideological vindictive trolling, which, I believe, is done by some among the "elite" or power users who with one fell swoop can knock off 300 points to symbolize a behavior warning or else.
If I'm wrong, then--however far-fetched-- it has to be some paranoid blogger obsessed with his ranking and if his standing is threatened will search out one infringing on his territory and zap many of the "enemy's" comments. I've requested before that trolling, as its only purpose is to generate resentment, be removed from the interface but has fallen on deaf ears. And the so-called deduction cycle does not hold water because user points are inviolate, unless trolled.
There have been a number of blogs about crass expressions deserving discipline, but no one has ever admitted that a clash of ideas should be under the same domain. It seems to me that blogging is about free, rational expression and exchange thereof. I sometimes join the digressions that are light hearted and tupperware-party-like, but too much of it can become artificially personal, cliquish, and downright nasty.
All of us are guests of the house of Draginol and should use proper manners; no one disputes this. However, when one is legitimately assaying a point of view he or she should not be perceived as destroying the house. After all, the guests have as much at stake as the homeowner, who, showing the same courtesy, should also acknowledge that the number of guests that show up lends perpetuity, value and dynamics to the site.
Call me thin-skinned-- though I could call trollers the same-- if you like, but one more deduction and I shall take personal umbrage and bring home the erratic marbles in my intellect and shoot in the quiet wilderness.
