Constructive gadfly

All the talk about amnesty guest workers for illegal immigrants is pointless without first fixing the current chaos at the borders. Any political solution to the existing illegal immigrants now working within the economy will only further serve as an incentive for others to invade our borders. We must set up a viable military bloc along the borders and treat the violators as criminals and immediately sent back to their home country. Further, the Secretary of State’s office must insist that the offending countries allowing mass emigration will suffer the consequence of less favorable relations and possible sanctions. Not until the borders are totally protected can we deal with our internal condition.

Once the borders are fully protected, amnesty could be granted to those who are gainfully and rightfully employed; those who show no IRS record will be nominally fined and the employer also fined even more harshly in order to clean up illegal labor. These immigrants will not have the option of guest status because it opens a can of worms in allowing trips across the border for the purpose of seasonal employment as it would be open to a nightmare of fraud and accounting. Either they vow new citizenship or be returned to the home country.

Perhaps even more important is to monitor suspected employers who hire immigrants off the books. All employment — including domestics — whether unskilled or skilled will be subject to US labor laws and accurate payroll records. Violators will be punished to the full extent of the law .

my son used to work at a place, in Forest Lake, where the owner was caught having illegal immigrants working for him.

It happened on more than one occasion and the owner never even got a slap on the wrist for it.  My son told me how after all was said and done,  they were right back in there.....

Aye, heartrending and all too prevalent.

Hillary is going to BBQ you!  But you are dead on.  There is no point in talking about amnesty for those here if that cannot be determined simply because the borders are so porous.

There are countless stories of illegal aliens coming north for the growing season, and then once it is over, going back.  And they do this year after year after year.

good article, good points, besides the things you mentioned ILLEGAL Immigrants are spreading diseases here that have been wiped out in America.

We need to close border, screen both medically and for criminals before we get to any guest workers program.

I don't know about disease, but I want them out too. They're benefiting many services without even paying for it.

For example:
School
welfare/SSI
food stamp
jobs (not a service, but we need jobs too.)

The fact is that we are unequal nations. There are not the opportunities or money in Mexico that is in the U.S. Millions of dollars are poured into the Mexican economy from undocumented workers in the U.S. sending money home to their families. This is not going to be an easy fix. Fox can say that they don't condone undocumented workers coming to the U.S. but it's hard to believe when so much money is coming from the U.S. to Mexico.

I definately agree that the employers should be held accountable for hiring illegal workers. They are going to be a much easier target since they are established. The workers can just move on but the employer will still be there. The fact is that these businesses are profiting from hiring illegal workers. Most know their status and pay them cash under the table.

I think most illegal workers are good, hard-working people. They are not here to mooch from our society. They are here to provide a better life for their families. We need to change the rules so they can contribute to our country in taxes if they are going to live and work here. There are many Mexicans in my community and I find most to be kind, friendly and very family oriented. They are not the enemy that I think they are made out to be.

right on.

They are not the enemy that I think they are made out to be.
True, but without formal allegiance to this country, they are only concerned with sending money to their native country while reaping benefits here that are usually free or a burden to the taxpayer. They should show integrity by applying for citizenship and lawful employment.
