An academic freedom case is pending because a primary level teacher said in a classroom when asked about peace demonstrations in town: “While driving by I honked my horn to held up signs that said ‘Honk for Peace’… It is important for people to seek peaceful solutions to a problem before going to war and that we train kids on the playground to be mediators in seeking out peaceful solutions.”

Cheney during his last visit to Iraq was guarded by US troops with guns at “ready arms” while backed up by Iraqi forces pretending to be at ready arms since they had no guns. Can you guess the hidden message? Habeas Corpus is no joke. A man, named Mann, was held for 15 months in a Dallas jail. Accused of contempt-of -court, had he had a speedy trial, the irony is that his sentence would have been only two months. A jay walker was given a $5 ticket even though he was hit by a Toyo...

"No matter what the greatest tyrant in the world, the greatest terrorist in the world, George W. Bush says, we're here to tell you: Not hundreds, not thousands, but millions of the American people ... support your revolution," Belafonte told Chavez during the broadcast. Does Harry really think he's helping the cause of those who hold Bush in disfavor, wishing him to change policy, with a statement like this? It is one thing to praise Chavez even though many other millions would consider it d...

Though it’s great for the economy to have low unemployment, one can’t help but wonder if it wouldn’t be wiser to add some 70,000 to the unemployment ranks by shutting down the coal mines completely. But wait: some forty percent of our energy needs is supplied by coal. Would it not be better to develop a robotic system for the most lethal pockets of the mines to spare the practice of humans having to dig in an environment of deadly gases? But then the cry — as it is in opposing environmental id...

At a time when Congress is attempting to work out some rather reasonable restraints on the administration’s surveillance operations, defense lawyers are throwing a monkey wrench into the fray by outlandish lawsuits and appeals in behalf of convicted terrorists. The first reaction will naturally be that liberals are in support of this countermove, which is ridiculous as it would undermine their pursuit of lightening up on the Patriot Act and surveillance.

The little country Qater, thanks to 900 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, is the third wealthiest nation in the world in terms of per capita income, behind Luxembourg and Switzerland. I can understand Qater being up there, sitting on all that gas, but what’s number one Switzerland, and Luxembourg’s excuse? The US would love to know their secret to success.

Boy:       Kinda nice having holiday music in the halls. Puts you in the spirit-- like you really want to do something nice for mankind. Girl:       Obviously not womankind! { she grunts, struggling with her books } Boy:       { Ignores her } Ah, less than six hours away-- and then freedom for two weeks! Girl:       You speak of C...

"COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - Diapers are clogging up city sewage lines - and causing a smelly, messy problem for some residents. "It's a stinky case," said Mike Sciortino, assistant city attorney. David and Jeanie Hansen know just how stinky. David said he found four inches of sewage on his basement floor in October. He hauled out about 200 gallons that morning and called the city. Then things got really bad. The cause of the Hansens' misery? According to the city, it likely is diapers that ...

Once again the children of Jehovah were under the yoke of yet another Empire near the turn of the fourth millennium. In the tiny town of Nazareth the son of a carpenter was born. As he nurtured it seemed he was a child of promise who quickly learned the Scriptures and was destined to fulfil the Mosaic thrust for freedom. As a young man his gentle manner and teachings captured the hearts of the villagers and he was soon known as simply the Nazarene wh...

The Seasonal Message is prayer For the starving child of Zaire And others threatened elsewhere.   The child is sorrowfully dispensable By those who are struck insensible, Which in faith is incomprehensible.   Remorseless leaders dismiss the meaning of the Manger— So conditioned by the faceless moneychanger.   Who but the Infant Jesus cries out the danger As flies hover to lay eggs on a tiny stranger?   Begone callous d...

Though many loved ones are gone from this world  — Our hearts forlorn and knurled — Faith ushers in the comfort of the undying soul That, as Bethlehem’s Star, emits control Over the dark imbalance of anxious moments Conjuring dread and hope’s ambivalence. Yea, to the Child’s unabated spirit of hope As we trudge condition’s skittish slope. Yea, to the departed whose eternal light Guides us through timorous twilight Toward the final home ...

CHRISTMAS 'TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, HE LIVED ALL ALONE, IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE. I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE, AND TO SEE JUST WHO IN THIS HOME DID LIVE. I LOOKED ALL ABOUT, A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE, NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS, NOT EVEN A TREE. NO STOCKING BY MANTLE, JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND, ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES OF FAR DISTANT LANDS. WITH MEDALS AND BADGES, AWARDS OF ALL KINDS, A SOBER THOUGHT CAME THROUGH ...

Actually the subject of Santa is not as slam dunk an either/or issue of existence. There are those who don’t believe in him yet do ! There are those who do believe in but don’t ! Chauvinists believe in him in the image of a sexy woman to effect erection. There is the conditional belief: kids only. Parents believed in Santa when kids, therefore their children must believe in him, too, with the confidence they will grow out of it as they did. There are those who think of him as a giant comm...
