"I locked you into a lease for at least a year, so you don’t have to worry about it being sold from under you. It’ll give you some time to think about coming down to the bank to consider a mortgage if you really are serious about buying."

"That’s good of you, Mr. MacDowell. By Paddy, we’ve always dreamed of owning a home." Cory felt comfortable with the banker and didn’t mind divulging unabashedly his future plan.

"Oh, don’t be so formal. Josh is the name. Why, we’re neighbors now.… Well, as I say, John, you have time. Give it some thorough thought and if and when you’re ready I can virtually guarantee that you won’t pay more than ten dollars over your rent for the whole pack-age—insurance, principal, taxes and interest." The shorter man in a pin-stripe suit got up from the table, leaving some papers and took his daughter’s hand.

"That sounds great, Josh!" The men shook hands, then Cory looked down and patted the little girl’s head....

You can still find that - in the small banks. I hate the big ones, but it is hard to find a small one these days. I moved so many times trying to keep my money in a small bank (and my first mortgage was with a small S&L) that I lost count.

I just like the fact that you know the people, and they know you.
